Yesterday Mashable published an excellent post about “popular money making methods today, many of them focused on blogging and peer production”.

The resources featured in this post can be applied to any type of blog or website, I strongly recommend it.

I have made a little experiment to find out how long it would take to index a brand new site in Google without actually submitting to directly to Google.
To my surprise after some optimisation and a some web 2.0 techniques the site got indexed in less than 3 days.

I think it is quite impressive since Raising Babies is a brand new domain.

Real Travel from Real People

I have recently stumbled onto a web site that is worth the visit for all travel bloggers out there. RealTravel.com has all features that you’d expect from a good travel resource and also has a number of community-like aspects that allows you to interact with other travellers and keep your family and friends updated with your adventures.

Above everything I liked RealTravel.com community features, like the travel blog which is packed with cool features. You can create maps pinning the places you visited, upload your photos, and maintain a journal.

There’s also a trip planner where you can create personalised itineraries, maps, reviews and save that information to access anytime from any computer. You can also share your trip plans with other people.

Hearing advice and experiences from real people like you is what makes Realtravel a great place to discover new destinations and things to do while you there.

Flash Objects Displaying on Top of HTML Content

Posted on July 4th, 2007 .

I have experienced a problem recently when designing a website; the flash banner was displaying on top of the CSS menu regardless of the stacking order (”z-index”).

By default, browsers place embedded content, on the top layer. In older browsers, you can’t place a DHTML layer on top of a Flash layer. Newer browsers have the ability to layer Flash content with DHTML content and in some cases the ability to use transparent backgrounds in the Flash.

The parameter WMODE

The solution for this problem is using the parameter WMODE to allow layering of Flash content with DHTML layers. The parameter WMODE has 3 possible settings: ‘window’ (default), ‘transparent’, or ‘opaque’. Setting WMODE to ‘transparent’ or ‘opaque’ will prevent the Flash object from playing in the top layer and allow you to adjust the stacking order of the movie within other layers of the HTML document.

Just add this parameter:

<param name="wmode" value="transparent" />

And this value to the embed attribute:

wmode="transparent"

This should resolve the problem. :-)
