Update Services let other people know you’ve updated your website. These services are more commonly used in blogs, sending a XML-RPC ping to various services each time you create a blog post.

I have gathered a list of XML-RPC Ping Services and decided to post here.

You can set up Wordpress to send pings to these services automatically: Choose Options > Writing > Update Services > Paste the list below there and select update.
That’s all now every time you publish a new blog post all those services will be updated automatically.

I forgot the URL but I read on some other blog that pinging http://rpc.pingomatic.com pings all the other services you mentioned. Is that true?

@Ian - Technorati is just one blog aggregator. there are dozens of them, so why not pinging to them all?

@Odzyskiwanie - Pingomatic pings multiple pinging services but not all mentioned in this article.
there’s another multi pinging service called autopinger which is quite good too.

Massachusetts Wedding DJ…

I\’m very impressed with the layout of your Blog. I will be sure to be back and read more….

This is a pretty useful list. Other than pingomatic, another multi pinging service is pingoat. I found that really useful.

Could someone explain to me what these ping services are all about. I’m new to blogging and trying to catch up. Are they something to do with social media sites or rss feed aggregators?

Pinging services basically are notifying services. Pining is telling those services that your blog has been updated.
