When working in Photoshop and testing fonts for new designs I used to find myself having to restart Photoshop everytime I installed a new font.

That was until I found The Font Thing. It’s absolutely free to use and enables you to manage your fonts in a breeze.

Just type in the text you want to see, set the size using the slider at
the bottom, and you can scroll through all your installed fonts,
looking out for something that has the right feel.

The Font Thing

With The Font Thing you can browse installed and uninstalled TrueType fonts, which is great because you don’t have to install a font to see how it looks like. viewing sample text,
individual characters, and detailed font information.

You can even store your own notes with them, filter them according to type (serif, sans serif, and so on), and group them into collections for convenience. You can also choose your font colors, set up drop-down lists of standard text samples, and rename font files to avoid conflicts.

The Font Thing wins for its simplicity and effectiveness. It’s a great font management tool and it simply became one that I couldn’t live without.
